These new features for SharePoint have been announced
The vision of Microsoft for SharePoint was demonstrated last year at the Great the future of SharePoint event. One that we liked very much and in which we see great potential for the future. Even though Microsoft continues to pursue its cloud first mobile first strategy, many new features for SharePoint On-Premises and, of course, for hybrid environments are also coming.
On May 16, 2017, Microsoft announced SharePoint Summit more exciting features and published the road map for it. Microsoft continues to focus on usability, compliance, and collaboration.
Share files securely with OneDrive
OneDrive is already a good way to safely share files with other people. To further improve functionality, Microsoft has announced additional features for OneDrive.
OneDrive Files On-Demand: Allows you to view all files in the usual Windows explorer, but only to synchronize them when necessary to edit the file. This saves valuable storage space on the end devices. Files, which you need always or offline can be marked extra so they are always synchronized.
Share documents directly from the Windows Explorer or Mac Finder: With a simple right-click on the document, a release form can be opened. The file can then be easily shared via link or e-mail. Authorizations can also be set there to determine who can read or edit the document for how long.
SharePoint team sites with other Office 365 applications
Existing SharePoint Teams page can be connected to Office 365 Groups. Existing pages can then be extended with conversations, calendars, and the planner. SharePoint Pages can be created as tabs in teams. Further innovations for the integration of SharePoint into teams are announced on the Microsoft Ignite.
In the future, Power Apps can be used to create custom forms, which can then be used in SharePoint. This makes it much easier to create and improve business processes.
Build easy approval processes in SharePoint libraries: Microsoft Flow and SharePoint should also be better connected. New approval processes allow you to send documents for approval with your own message. The recipient gets an e-mail with the request and can directly give feedback without leaving his inbox.
The future of the intranet? Inform employees and call them to interact
Intranets serve not only to inform employees but also to exchange ideas with them. Microsoft has announced community sites for easy, easy-to-use, and intuitive intranets. Community sites are used for company-wide communication.
Gather knowledge and make use of it
Knowledge is the largest capital of companies. Although most companies have left their knowledge islands, much potential is still wasted. A new personalized search is designed to significantly improve the finding of people, skills, and knowledge. With the help of the Office Graph, search results are personalized and constantly improved. In addition to files, people profiles that correspond to the search query are displayed.
Secure content and manage services
To ensure the security of the data in the cloud, Microsoft is working on a new administrator center. The new SharePoint Admin Center is designed to simplify the work of SharePoint Administrators.
On-Premises and Hybrid is further supported
Despite the offensive Cloud First strategy from Microsoft, SharePoint On-Premises and hybrid models are not to be missed. After the release of Feature Pack 1 , Feature Pack 2 for SharePoint was announced for 2017. New components for the SharePoint Framework promise an improved client-side development model to develop Web Parts and solutions for SharePoint on Premises, Hybrid environments, and Office 365.
